The First day of the 2013 Grand National Meeting is an absolute cracker as always as the excitement builds towards the big race on Saturday, the meeting as a whole is growing in stature and there are two excellent races in particular on the card. It is a great way to start three days of the best racing on offer, Aintree will be packed as always at the start of April and it is a great way to taste some top class action either on track or at home on the TV.

The first race of the entire meeting is the brilliant Liverpool Hurdle which attracts the best staying hurdlers around to the race, it is a Grade 1 race so is of the highest standard as the winner in 2009 highlights. Big Bucks is the very best horse over this trip and he arrived at Aintree after winning his second World Hurdle at Cheltenham, he duly obliged and won with some ease despite a good field. It is expected that we will see another top field in 2013 with those who come out of Cheltenham in good shape could head to Aintree for a quick fire double.

The big race of the day though is the Totesport Bowl which has attracted some real stars in recent years, it is common place that we see some of the Gold Cup horses taking their chance at Aintree as we did with Impoerial Commander in 2010. He won at Cheltenham and arrived in Liverpool looking for another quick win, it was not to be though as he unseated his jockey to leave What A Friend to claim a good win.
